Da Nang (China Beach) and Hoi An
The last stops on our busy itinerary were Da Nang and Hoi An. We had booked a local bus from Hue to Da Nang. It took two hours on mountainous and coastal roads to get there. We spent the night in Da Nang and visited Hoi An the next day. Da Nang, also known as China Beach, is now a resort town. It has wonderful and expansive sandy beaches that stretch for miles and miles. Hoi An is known for quaint streets with many ancient architecture left intact, untouched by war.
On the way to Da Nang, the bus made a pit stop. This was the view that I discovered a short walk away, behind the shop and bathroom, through an alley to the back.
This is the beach in front of our hotel (Sandy Beach Hotel) in Da Nang. We didn’t see that many people anywhere, as far as we could see (that's Joanne taking a walk).
Many chairs sat empty. The economy must be affecting this area as well.
We had the beach to enjoy all by ourselves.
Hoi An had many little boutique shops and restaurants. It is only 30 minutes away from Da Nang by car. We enjoyed strolling around for half a day and had lunch there.
There were many fine restaurants set up in old buildings. We ate lunch at a place called “Cargo”, a French patisserie recommended by a fellow traveler. The food and pastries were first class.
This lady posed for me to take her picture. At first, I thought she was a merchant but looking at the picture she looks too good to be one. Besides, why is she holding a bag?
